Saumalaakso – Utilization of clean energy
In addition to the continuous improvement of the responsibility and environmental friendliness of our core business, we have acquired solar panels for the energy needs of our premises to reduce the carbon footprint of energy consumption.
Purpose
In all its operations, Saumalaakso strives to follow environmentally friendly procedures and continuously improve its practices in order to achieve more ecological solutions.
In addition to the continuous improvement of the responsibility and environmental friendliness of our core operations, we have, for example, acquired solar panels for the energy needs of our premises to reduce the carbon footprint of energy consumption.
Results
Solar panels were installed on the roof of our premises in 2018.
The panels have generated an average of 8.5 MWh per year, so a total of 34 MWh to date.
In 2020, the energy consumption of our premises is 65,000 kwh, so solar panels have produced more energy than needed, which has also brought savings in energy costs.
In addition to the installation of solar panels, several different energy saving projects have been implemented in Saumalaakso during 2011-2020.
Throughout the implementation of the measures mentioned in the section, energy consumption has been halved:
2011 energy consumption of the property 134,000 kwh
2012 energy consumption of the property 152,000 kwh
2019 energy consumption of the property 76,000 kwh
2020 energy consumption of the property 65,000 kwh
Implementation
We implemented a solar panel commissioning project in cooperation with EPS-Tekniikka Oy in 2018.
Solar panels are just one example of the energy saving projects implemented at Saumalaakso’s premises.
Here is a list of activities carried out in recent years that have made it possible to halve energy consumption from 2011 to 2020:
- 2019: Renovation of office ventilation with heat recovery system installed
- 2016: Lifting doors were renewed as energy-saving automatic doors
- 2015: Renovation of an office heating system
- 2015: Renovation of hall and office lighting into energy-saving LED lights
- 2014: Additional insulation of the hall roof
- 2013: The heating system in the hall was renewed
