Purpose

Avidly conducted a climate survey to companies and it revealed how climate change has quickly risen to become one of the hottest topics within Finnish companies. Climate change is an urgent threat that requires immediate, concrete action. It verified to us that we needed to take actions of our own to lessen our office’s carbon footprint.

Results

Avidly is the first Finnish marketing agency that has evaluated its emissions and has taken systematic action to mitigate it. We set out goals to take down our CO2 footprint by a third in 2019. Within the year, we took down our carbon footprint by 13%. And when combined with the mitigation of our air travel emissions, our complete CO2 footprint was diminished by 37%. All for a better tomorrow.

Implementation

#tomorrowbono is Avidly’s responsibility programme, which enables us to make concrete, measurable actions of responsibility. In 2019, our #tomorrowbono subject was chosen through an open procedure by any voluntary individual, company, or community.

The selection criteria were as follows:

  1. The subject had to be realistically suitable for executing a measurable impact
  2. The subject helps in enabling a better tomorrow
  3. The subject inspires Avidly’s people and is easy to jump onto

CO2Esto, a Finnish company acting to mitigate CO2 emissions, was ultimately chosen. As a company that provides societies with a clear and transparent way to lessen our carbon footprint, CO2Esto felt like a no-brainer. As we made our decision, we started pouring our hearts, minds, and time into this fantastic project. Pro bono.

We also conducted a climate survey to companies as part of our #tomorrowbono responsibility programme. It revealed how climate change has quickly risen to become one of the hottest topics within Finnish companies as an urgent threat that requires immediate, concrete action. Simultaneously, however, many companies also see climate change as a lucrative business opportunity.

This survey further verified to Avidly that we needed to take actions of our own to lessen our office’s carbon footprint. According to our CO2 estimations, 36% of Avidly’s emissions come from business transportation. Next up were electricity and heating with 21%, and finally, employee commuting came in at 21%.
