Nevas Golf – Solar Panels
Nevas Golf Club (Sipoo, Finland) installed a 20 kW solar panel system to provide sustainable energy for the needs of the clubhouse and customer electric vehicle charging stations.
The idea of installing PV panels onto roofs to generate renewable electricity is creating direct impact on reducing CO2 emissions. However, this idea is not new since those projects have been implemented for more than 30 years already. The approach to connect it to the clubhouse is simple and effectively delivering renewable electricity to the grid. Unfortunately, there is no sufficient information given, how big the share of direct consumption out of the green production is. With a storage unit, the local sustainability could have been significantly improved. The project type is widely replicated all over the world already and very much proved.
Investments to renewable energy in the form of solar power lowers CO2 emissions effectively as their operation does not create greenhouse gas emissions. This Planet act additionally builds the awareness of customers as charging of electric vehicles is provided. This act is scalable for organizations with physical customer locations where installation of solar panels is possible.
Purpose
In 2019 Nevas Golf had the carbon footprint of the golf course operations calculated by a student of Metropolia Polytechnic. Since then the improvements of infrastructure have been done in a sustainable manner. As a part of this carbon footprint reduction program the club house was equipped with solar panels in March 2021.
The electricity usage profile for a golf club is perfect for solar energy as most of the electricity is used on sunny summer days.
Results
Throught the actions taken the estimated CO2 reduction of the panels is 2150 kg per year. The panels will provide energy also for customers electric and hybrid vehicles through two charging stations to be installed on the parking lot.
Implementation
The partner to provide the system was chosen in December 2020.The company is a local Sipoo based Rasol Oy whose headquarters is located just ten kilometers away from Nevas Golf.
The Installation of over 50 panels took place on February 2021 and the panels are producing energy since 1st of March 2021. The installation process was done in just a few days as the clubhouse already provided a solid base for the structure.
