Kivra – We offset 110% of our carbon footprint
Kivra is the world’s first digital mailbox where you can send and receive 110% climate positive mail. As a digital mailbox service, our business is inherently good for the climate and the more digital mail is sent through our service, the bigger our positive impact on the climate.
We have analysed the carbon footprint of our service’s entire production chain including Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
In 2020, the total carbon footprint of our service was 20 tCO2e. This corresponds approximately to the annual carbon footprint of two Finnish persons. We offset 110% of the carbon footprint resulting from our operations. We fulfill this by partnering with ZeroMission nature conservation organisation to protect rainforests that have suffered from excessive production of palm oil on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.
The ability to assess the CO2 emissions from the value requires specific competences and expertise. Compensating emissions, that can not be avoided by a business, is the last action after all means of minimizing emissions have been implemented. This act is scalable to the combined amount compensations projects exist and are available to be utilized. The compensation projects used in this planet act are fully measured, reported and verified.
Purpose
We are committed to actively reducing our carbon footprint and acting in accordance with the Paris Agreement.
Our climate responsibility work is based on an ISO 14067:2018 environmental programme certificate (Carbon footprint of products) and we are a member of the Climate Positive cooperation network.
We hope that we can inspire other companies to actively aim to be climate positive. At Kivra, we do it through our responsible core business and by making our climate positive digital mailbox service available to all Finns. We want to offer everyone the opportunity to reduce their carbon footprint effortlessly, as part of their normal daily activities and sustainable business.
Results

Implementation
To offset 110% of our carbon footprint, we support the Bujang Raba REDD+ conservation project on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia.
Bujang Raba is one of the first REDD projects in Indonesia. The project’s mission is to conserve rainforests that have been damaged by excessive palm oil production and educate the local population in responsible forest management and cultivation.
The conserved forest area is more than 5,339 hectares in size. It is estimated that the conservation of the area will lead to a net carbon benefit of 630,000 tCO2 over a period of 10 years (2014–2023). The project has been certified by Plan Vivo. The implementation of our climate positive compensation is supervised by ZeroMission.
From the beginning of 2020, we have offset 98 tCO2e.
